PSAT for January 26 - Cancelled

cancelled-stamp-4-1024x785.png

Good afternoon, Southwest Families,

We want to share with you that, per MPS senior leadership, the PSAT is cancelled for January 26th. Although our planning recognized the tentative nature of the date, we understand that the cancellation may be a disappointment for our students and families.

Refunds for your registration fees will be processed automatically for you starting Monday, January 11th by Lisa Ledman through Total Registration.  Please allow us a few days to process your refund.

If your student would like to pursue the National Merit Scholarship Competition, they have extended alternate entry to all students in light of COVID.  Students should follow these guidelines in order to enter the competition:

  1. Take the SAT between now and the end of June 2021.  To find a testing center in Minnesota nearby, please use this link.  Use the drop down menu to select a date and the testing sites will show below.  You can then register directly on the College Board website for the SAT.

  2. Request that the College Board SAT Program send an official report of your SAT scores to NMSC (code 0085). The SAT Program will not report your scores to NMSC unless you request it. You cannot use a photocopy of the score report sent to you or to your high school as a substitute for the official report; and

  3. Visit forms.nationalmerit.org/alternateentry immediately to complete the Alternate Entry Form. You cannot be considered in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program unless you complete this online form no later than Thursday, April 1, 2021.

Please note that PSAT testing at all Minneapolis Public Schools is cancelled.

If you qualify for a waiver for SAT, please reach out to your child’s counselor and they will be able to assist you.  We also have highly qualified College and Career Center staff who are able to help you navigate registering for the SAT, accessing study resources, and any other college readiness questions you may have.

Thank you,

Southwest Administration
