Preparing for Success in Your Senior Year

Welcome Incoming Seniors (Class of 2019)


Additional opportunities to support your post-secondary planning and application process are below. 


Passport to College (morning of Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Southwest High School)

- Mini-conference with sessions for all aspects of college search and application process, including workshops for rising senior students to prepare college application and college admissions process.  

-Presented by SWHS Counselors, College Admissions and Financial Aid counselors, and other individuals involved in the process of college choice and admission and open to Southwest students and families. The event will be most applicable for rising juniors and seniors, classes of 2020 and 2019.

Upcoming College and Post-Secondary Plan Fairs:

Colleges That Change Lives College Fair (August 20, 2018  7pm in the Saint Paul RiverCenter)

-Free and open to the public, the event will start with a 30 minute information session before a college fair from 7:30- 9:00pm.

Grove's Academy LD/ADHD College Fair (Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the DoubleTree Hotel in St. Louis Park)

-Free and open to the public, geared exclusively towards students who have learning disabilities or attention disorders, this is the only college fair of its kind in Minnesota. Representatives from over 45 schools and organizations wlil be present. 


-Additional Information:


NACAC National College Fair (October 24-25, 2018 at the Minneapolis Convention Center)

-Free and open to the public, one of the country's largest college fairs with a wide range of postsecondary institutions.

-Students and families are encouraged to attend the evening session as to not miss classtime. The daytime sessions of the fair are often much more busy as students travel with school groups from across the region to attend.

NACAC Performing and Visual Arts College Fair (Tuesday, October 9, 2018 7pm at Minnesota Institute of Art)

-Free and open to the public, for students who are interested in pursuing a college degree in music, theater, art, dance or related disciplines.

USA Gap Year Fair (Date TBA, 2017 date was late January)

-Free and open to the public, for students who are interested in pursuing a college degree in music, theater, art, dance or related disciplines.

Campus Tour Events Over the Summer:

"Meet Minnesota" Campus Visits in the U of MN System (June 18- 22, 2018)

-All 5 campuses of the University of Minnesota System will host campus visit events for prospective students and their families. 

-To schedule a visit:

Minnesota Private College Week (June 25-29, 2018)

-All 17 MN Private Colleges are hosting 2 daily sessions (9:30- 12:00 and 2:00- 4:30) all week for prospective students and families to visit, tour, meet professors, and learn more about each college option.

-Additional information and registration:

Wisconsin Private College Week (July 9-14, 2018)

-All 24 WI Private Colleges are hosting tours, admissions and financial aid advisors, professor meet and greets, meals, and more during this week.

Iowa Private College Week (2018 Dates TBA- was July 31- August 4, 2017)

-The 25 IA private colleges have coordinated special visit events such that prospective students and famlies can visit up to 2 campuses each day of this week.
