TO: Students and Families registered for IB Diploma Exams May 2020

FROM: Kelly McQuillan, MPS Advanced Academics Coordinator

March 23, 2020

Greetings students and families,

We are writing today because the International Baccalaureate Organization made a major announcement yesterday: The May 2020 examinations as scheduled between April 30th and May 22nd for Diploma Programme and Career-Related Programme candidates will no longer be held. This news was just announced today, and it is true for all IB schools across the world.

There are many questions right now, and your school leaders are working to get those answers as quickly as possible, as we don’t know anymore than what the IB has published today.  Here are the important things to know today:

  • IB Diploma and Career-Related Certificates will still be awarded to eligible students. Students registered for exams will still earn an exam score. To this point, we do not know exactly how IB will determine the criteria for earning these exam scores.
  • More information about how you will be scored and assessed will be published by IB on March 27.  MPS will provide further direction to teachers and students ASAP when we receive that information from IB.
  • We understand that some of you may have questions regarding the potential refund of exam fees. We will let you know when more information is available.
  • Here’s what you, as a student should do now:
    • Continue to work on your coursework and any internal assessments that you have not completed.
    • Stay in close contact with your teacher.
    • Communicate any technology needs to your teacher or IB coordinator.
    • Seniors, remember to stay connected with your counselor with respect to MPS graduation requirements.

This situation, like all others over the last two weeks, is ever-changing.  We are doing our best to interpret the new developments as they come and serve you with the energy and integrity you deserve. Please feel free to reach out to your program coordinator with specific questions, and watch for more communication about the specifics of IB assessment scoring.

Sincerely,

Kelly McQuillan
