Gap Year

What is a Gap Year?

According to the Gap Year Association, a Gap Year is "a semester or year of experiential learning, typically taken after high school and prior to career or post-secondary education, in order to deepen one’s practical, professional, and personal awareness.

Thus, it's not just a "year off" to "take a break, work, or relax," but rather a program undertaken for academic, cultural, and/or personal growth.

Programs range in length, location, cost, purpose, and activities; and some programs may allow students to earn college credit as a result of their work. Students who are exploring a gap year program should do research to discover if/which is the right fit. Ask questions. Explore options. Dream Big.
