Neighborhood Study Final Project

For the final project in geography you will be required to complete a neighborhood study.  Below are three options, you will only be required to complete one option.  As our final unit in geography we will be studying urban sprawl.  How does urban sprawl affect people and the planet?  Why does urban sprawl happen and how it affects people and the environment? All these questions will be asked and debated through this project and class assignments.

Option 1 – Collage

Create a collage about the neighborhood you live in.  You must include real images either from the internet or real pictures that you have taken of the following:  a house of worship (any religion), one school, 1-3 businesses, your house, one park, and one interesting image of your choice.  Your collage must include captions describing what is in the image, a title, and your name. Finally, you will type a paragraph 3-5 sentences describing your collage and submit your paragraph on google docs to jennifer.casell@mpls.k12.mn.us

Option 2 – Postcards

Create five postcards of different places in your neighborhood.  You can take pictures, draw pictures, or use online images, but they must be images of your neighborhood!  On the back of the postcard you must include a 1-2 sentence description of the image.  If you choose this option I will provide you with cardstock.  Finally, you must type one paragraph 3-5 sentences describing why you choose your five images for your postcards and submit your paragraph on google docs to jennifer.casell@mpls.k12.mn.us

Option 3 – Neighborhood Map

Create a large map of your neighborhood. On the map include five images of your neighborhood. These images can be a school, park, lake, popular restaurant, house of worship, unusual building… Besides the images you must include:  street and avenue names, a compass rose, a legend, and indicate where you live on the map.  You can decorate your map and make it look special and unique. Finally, you will type a paragraph 3-5 sentences describing why you choose your five unique features on your map and submit your paragraph on google docs to jennifer.casell@mpls.k12.mn.us
