Ms. Brown is thrilled to be teaching dance at Southwest High School.  This will be Ms. Brown’s 18th year of teaching and her first year at Southwest.  Before beginning at Southwest she was teaching at South High School where she started a new dance program in 2012, and developed it into a 4-level program with 90 students, including two company classes, and performances throughout the year. She graduated from St. Olaf College in 1996 with a BA in dance and earned a Master’s of Fine Arts degree in choreography from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2004. In 2015 she completed a graduate teacher license program from Mankato State University.

Before teaching in the Minneapolis schools Erin co-founded a modern dance company in Oklahoma (2007) where she worked as artistic director for four seasons before moving to Minneapolis in 2012.  After receiving her MFA, she taught dance in Kentucky, North Carolina, and Oklahoma.  Her life as a professional dancer has included working as a choreographer and performer in Arizona, North Carolina, and Oklahoma. In addition to modern dance choreography Ms. Brown has also choreographed over 10 musicals including West Side Story, Sweet Charity, Hairspray, The Wiz and Grease.

Erin has one son, Jackson, who is an elementary student in Hopkins.  She also has a supportive husband, Steve, who has two high school-age kids.  In her free time she enjoys attending arts events, taking dance classes, swimming, yoga, traveling, enjoying Steve’s cooking, reading and watching movies.
