  • Southwest Community Ed typically offers ACT and SAT/PSAT Courses at Southwest and Washburn High Schools. For more information and to register, come into the SW Community Ed office (East building) or call 612-668-3100.


  • In some years, Southwest has been able to offer specific prep classes leading up to the MPS District-wide ACT offered to juniors each spring. Ask your Counselor or CCC Coordinator for details.


  • Other organizations offer different types of test prep classes or individual tutoring. Southwest students have taken clases or recieved tutoring from ACTReady, College Nannies and Tutors, Huntington- Edina, Breakaway, Princeton Review, and more.

·          ACT

This is the link to the student site for ACT. It allows students to register for an ACT test, learn test taking strategies to maximize ACT scores, see sample ACT questions, and read research information about the ACT.


·          College Board 

Students, parents, & counselors will find a comprehensive menu of information to aid in the transition to college. Includes college, career & financial aid database.


·          College Power Prep

This site has new ACT and SAT tips every day and strategies for preparing for these tests. More comprehensive test prep activities and exercises can be downloaded for fee.


·          Fair Test

Links to 700 colleges that de-emphasize the importance of the ACT/SAT in the admissions process.



Free on-line ACT test allows you to see your answers and explains the ones you got wrong.


·          Kaplan

Test Prep on line. Self tests plus many topics.



This truly free SAT pep site offers tutorials, practice sessions, a vocabulary builder and college planning information. The site was planned by university professors experienced in the area of test prep.


·          Secrets of the SAT

PBS's Frontline has created a site that explores the role of the Scholastic Aptitude Tests and how they potentially affect students' academic futures. Besides investigating the test preparation industry and racial issues related to admissions policies, the site allows users to play the role of admissions officers.


·          Test Prep Review

Free practice for the ACT and SAT. Further preparation available.


·          The Princeton Review

The Princeton Review helps people find and get into the right college or other school. They have great resources to help with testing, admissions, financial aid, etc.


·          US College Prep

Reasonably priced commercial site features on-line preparation for the PSAT, SAT, ACT and help with writing essays for college admission.
