SAT I: Reasoning Test

The SAT Reasoning Test or SAT I is a test measuring critical reading, mathematical, and writing skills. Including instruction and break time, this test will last approximately 3 hours plus 50 minutes for the optional Essay.  The test consists of the following:

Reading comprehension, sentence completions, and paragraph-length critical reading

Critical reading and sentence-level reading


80 min. 

Five-choice multiple-choice questions and student-produced responses

Number and operations; algebra and functions; geometry; statistics, probability, and data analysis

Essay (optional)

50 min.

Students produce a written analysis of a provided source text.

The SAT is scored on a scale from 200-800 for each of the 2 sections for a total ranging from 400-1600. Each of the 3 dimensions of the Essay are scored from 2-8. To register for the SAT, go to
