I am proud to be a member of the outstanding Southwest High School faculty.  This is my seventeenth year of teaching in the Minneapolis Public Schools, and my thirteenth at Southwest.  I love to teach Social Studies, and especially History.  I attempt to focus on the idea that history is a set of interpretations and perspectives, and that as history students we must be analysts of context and viewpoints.  I also love to discuss the connections between the past and the present.  I like to joke that "there is no future in studying history."  I actually believe that one must have an awareness of the past in order to comprehend the present and what is to come.
I am excited about my role as AVID instructor.  I believe strongly in the mission and goals of AVID.  I plan to be a study skills instructor, an advocate, a counselor, and an adult that AVID students can trust.

I am continually amazed at the talents, skills, intelligence, and sincerity of the students at Southwest.  It is my joy to be one of their instructors.
