Graduation Requirements

All MPS Students Must Complete the Following Requirements to Graduate and Earn a Diploma from MPS.

My Life Plan (MLP) - Completion of MLP Milestones, grades 9-12

  • MLP consists of multiple activities each year focused on preparing students for life after high school. 
  • Some activities, called milestones, have been updated since older years to keep with the most up-to-date college and career readiness reserach.

Credit Requirements

Earn a minimum of 21.5 total credits and complete all required coursework per the table below.

(1 credit = 1 year-long course, 0.25 credit is earned per class, per quarter.)

 Social Studies

  • Geography - 0.5 credit
  • US History - 1.0 credit
  • World History - 1.0 credit
  • Government and Citizenship - 0.5 credit
  • Economics - 0.5 credit

All SWHS students complete 4 years of Social Studies, as all 9th graders take the year-long AP Human Geography course.

 Mathematics

  • Intermediate Algebra - 1.0 credit
  • Geometry - 1.0 credit
  • Advanced Algebra - 1.0 credit

SWHS follows the IB math curriculum. A 3-year progression through this curriculum fulfills MPS graduation requirements.

 Science

  • Physical Science - 1.0 credit
  • Biology - 1.0 credit
  • Chemistry or Physics - 1.0 credit
  • Physics – 1.0 credit
  • Biology – 1.0 credit
  • Choice of IB science

 

The SWHS science department embeds Physical Science standards into the 9th grade Physics class in order to meet the Physical Science graduation requirement. SWHS does not offer a Physical Science course.

Considered a core class by the IB and by many 4-year colleges. Therefore, most SWHS students take a world language throughout their 4 years of high school.
