Fitness for Life One

Course Goals:
· To understand the importance of a balanced, healthy lifestyle
· To develop a positive self-concept
· To develop good cooperation and communication skills
· To discover personal physical abilities
· To learn the skills and concepts involved in various team and individual sports
· To develop an individualized fitness plan and fitness autobiography
Class Guide:
1. Students must wear workout clothes. EXAMPLE: Socks, underwear/jock, t-shirt, sweatshirt, sweatpants or shorts, tennis shoes and keep everything locked in the locker room when not used for class.
2. Students are expected to dress in the locker room and be dressed ready to go in the gymnasium by the second bell (5 minutes). Students are to remain in the gymnasium until the changing bell rings at that time change in the locker room and return to the gymnasium until the passing bell rings.
3. Students are expected to bring their own personal articles for hygiene.
4. Students unable to participate in class activities because of health reasons are required to bring a note from home or the health office. If a student is unable to participate for a long period of time, she or he is required to bring a note from a M.D. Excused absences can be made up by the student or parent requesting work from the teacher.
5. Food and drinks are not allowed in the gymnasium, fitness center or locker room.
6. Electronic devices including cell phones will not be needed in class and therefore are banned from gymnasium, fitness center and locker room.
7. Students are expected to respect themselves and others including the teacher.
Grading: Approximate percentage of grade
· Active Participation in Uniform 70 %
· Attitude/Responsibility 10 %
· Written Test/Fitness Plan/Skill Development 20 %
