Southwest Leadership Council Student Representative

As a Community Partnership School (CPS), Southwest maintains a decision making body made up of stakeholders known as the Leadership Council. The Leadership Council is responsible for hearing proposals from committees, discussing important issues within the school including the budget and equity, and ensuring that Southwest is constantly striving towards achieving its ultimate goal: ensuring that every student achieves their personal best. The Leadership Council is made up of 13 members that include staff, administration, families, and students. There are two voting student representatives and two alternates who have the same responsibilities and commitments as the student representatives, with the exception of not voting during meetings. These alternates become voting members if the voting members are absent from a meeting.

 

Responsibilities

  • Attend monthly Leadership Council meetings (always on the second Monday of the month from 3:30 to 5 pm)
  • Engage in discussion at meetings while serving as voice of the entire student body
  • Correspond frequently with Leadership Council members via electronic communication
  • Communicate with the student body to understand and accurately express their concerns and opinions as their representative
  • Develop ways to share information discussed at Leadership Council meetings with the student body
  • Participate in monthly late-start committee meetings, serving as a Leadership Council Liaison

 

Requirements

  • 3.0 GPA minimum
  • In good behavioral and academic standing
  • Comfortable speaking in large groups
  • Able to represent a large group with varied needs and opinions
