Staff & Student Spotlight

There are so many wonderful things happening at Southwest High School, and this school year, the Positive School Wide Engagement team wants to recognize our hard work and commitment to our jobs and learning. Each week, one staff member will be highlighted in our Staff Spotlight section. When chosen, that staff member gets to choose a student for our Student Spotlight. Be sure to congratulate our staff and student of the week when you see them around! Let's acknowledge the hard work we do!

Staff Spotlight Week of 11/21/2016

To get a deeper understanding of Jonathan Townsend, one should look to the lakes of our fine city. Yes, you will find him here chasing- better- sailing and surfing his passions, but the lakes are symbolic of Jonathan's qualities and philosophies as well. Like the lakes, Jonathan is deep in how he intentionally engages with those around him. When you speak with Jonathan, you know he is listening and it makes you feel important. Many are content to exchange small pleasantries in their work a day life, but Jonathan brings genuine and thoughtful dialogue to the halls of Southwest High School. Though intensely engaged in the community, Jonathan has an easiness to him like the waves that softly lap the South shore of Lake Harriet. Consistently calm and measured, Jonathan reflects on his own education as varied, diverse and ongoing. As the waters that fill our lakes have nebulous places of origin, so to does Jonathon. Influenced by East coast bravado, West Coast cool, Midwestern non-nonsense and international intellectualism, Jonathan is hard to pin down but never dull or uninteresting. Jonathan is most alive when he is in the moment, and he always is here at Southwest.
