We’re proud of them for their dedication on and off the field. These young women are smart, hardworking, and lead by example. Their efforts and sportsmanship greatly contributes to the success of Southwest High School’s soccer program.
1. Team Captain Brenna Bailey Brenna starting playing soccer when she was a wee girl in kindergarten, playing with SWAC and then with Pearl Park. She’s played JV, and three years on Varsity for Southwest. When she was younger, she enjoyed playing soccer in her side yard with her sister and dad – scoring by hitting a big bush. Her fondest memory is winning the first section game in 7 years in a shootout last year ANDDDD tying Wayzata the year they won state. Brenna’s proud mom is Cathy Conlin.
2. Team Manager Annie Erdahl Like Brenna, Annie starting playing soccer when she was five at Fuller Park, and also played with Lynhurst and SWAC. She played three seasons at Southwest – two on JV and last year on Varsity. While she had a great time playing on a guest team in Denmark, her favorite memories include coach Colette wearing that silly costume from "Monsters, Inc" last year and winning the section game. Annie’s proud parents are Elizabeth and Paul Erdahl.
3. Team Captain Hannah Hilden-Reid Hannah started her soccer career with the Lynhurst LARC team when she was five, and has been a key member of the SW Varsity team for her four years at Southwest. She’s also been a long-term member of Minneapolis United Rebel team, helping that team go premier. Her favorite soccer memory was beating Kelix in an intense shootout, which moved the team into the state tournament. Hannah’s proud parents are Amy Hilden and James Reid.
4. Annie Holicky-Michaels Annie began her soccer journey at 7ish, playing with Lyndale Farmstad and Kelix. She’s been a member of the 10th grade, JV and Varsity teams at Southwest. Soccer Saturday is one of Annie’s fondest memories. And her favorite Southwest Soccer memory? OVER picture – not sure what that means, but maybe her proud parents, Karen Holicky-Michaels and John Michaels, do.
5. Team Captain Maddy Horan Pearl Park was Maddy’s first soccer home. She’s played on the 9th, JV, and Varsity teams at Southwest. Maddy was a long-term member of the Minneapolis United Rebels, helping the team go premier. Maddy’s proud parents are Cecile Bedor and Joe Horan.
6. Emma Keiski Emma starting playing soccer in kindergarden with Becca. She’s played on all four teams at Southwest, and has played for Kelix for six years. She will never forget when Marie’s sister left her goalie position to go to the bathroom without telling one. Her team was scored on a lot! Her favorite Southwest memory was team building playing princess cowboy spoon. Emma said she loves this team because it’s so unified. She can’t wait to see how they will improve in the years to come! Emma’s proud parents are Beth Bertelson and Paul Keiski.
7. Rita Lachmansingh Rita’s first team was at Lynhurst when she was a little five year old girl. She played for LARC, Minneapolis United for the last six years, and all four teams at Southwest. She’s pretty proud to have been on the undefeated MU rec team. Her favorite southwest soccer memory was beating South last year. YES!! Rita’s proud parents are Amy Anderson and Carlos Lachmansingh.
8. Becca Mattson Like many of her teammates, Becca started playing soccer at age six for SWAC. She’s played on the Southwest freshman, JV and Varsity teams. Becca was also a long-time member of the Minneapolis United Rebels team, helping to elevate the team to premier. A great memory of Becca’s is when the SWAC Pirates won the championship after she and Emma Keiski were the last 2 players in the fourth over time, scored, and won! And she loved beating South on Soccer Saturday last year and winning the section game in a shootout. Her proud parents are Paula and John Mattson. And since she’s on the field, let’s thank Paula for her leadership as president of the Booster Club! Thank you Paula!
9. Elizabeth Smith Golden Valley is proud to say that E started her soccer career in their town at the tender age of five. She played for the Southwest sophomore team for two years and two years on Varsity. She also played for Lyndale Farmstead, but her favorite memory is playing for Coach Malik on Minneapolis United’s Rebel team for many years; she too helped elevate that team to premier. Final thought: CAN YOUUUUUU SCORE?! Her proud parents are Margaret Sines and Jordan Smith.
10. Audrey Wuest Like all her senior teammates, Audrey has been playing soccer since she was six years old, playing for SWAC and on the Southwest sophomore, JV and Varsity teams. Audrey’s favorite soccer memory was when she scored from a corner kick; pretty impressive but not half as fun as playing butts-up on JV! Her proud parents are Sara and David Wuest.
Thank you seniors for great memories! Go Lakers!!!!
