Course Objective:  To promote independence in the transition area of Post-Secondary Education & Training based on students’ Individual Education Plans with clearly stated goals and objectives.

Course Description:  In this course students will develop their literacy skills, including reading, writing, listening and public speaking.

Units of Study:

·         Vocabulary Development

·         Reading Comprehension and Literary Analysis

·         Writing skills- 5 paragraph Essay

·         Speaking skills

·         Paraphrasing/Summarizing

·         Inference

·         Concept Mastery

·         Unit Organization

Course Expectations: Students will improve in the following areas:

·         Develop Listening Skills

·         Following Verbal Directions Well

·         Follow Written Instructions and Classroom Procedures

·         Comprehend Written Information Well

·         Write Clearly and Efficiently

·         Present Ideas in a Clear and Logical Manner

·         Promote Own Ideas Effectively and Appropriately

Grading:  Student grades are individual and a reflection of their growth.  Students will be graded according to their IEP accommodations [A-F or Credit/No Credit].

Supplies Needed:

Writing utensils (pens, pencils), College Rule Notebook, Folder

It is expected that members of this class will observe strict policies of academic honesty and will be respectful of each other.  Any instances in which cheating, including plagiarism and unauthorized use of copyrighted materials, computer accounts or someone else’s work is determined, will be referred to Student Services and will be investigated to its full extent.
