 PSAT/NMSQT Information and Exam Registration Instructions

What is the PSAT/NMSQT? It is a standardized test co-sponsored by the College Board and the National Merit Scholarship Program. The PSAT assesses mathematics, reading, and writing skills and prepares the student to take the SAT test required by many colleges and universities across the country. In addition, to be eligible for the National Merit Scholarship and other programs the student must take the PSAT in their junior year of high school. Sophomores may take the PSAT; however it will only be a practice test if taken during that year. When is registration:  Starts on Friday, September 12th and ends on Monday, October 10th on the internet anywhere.

Who should register:  Juniors. 

Can sophomores take the PSAT?  Yes, sophomores may register; however the exam counts only as practice. There are no fee waivers available for sophomores.

How do you register?

For the 2016 PSAT/NMSQT, students at Southwest High School will be registering online. This registration will take a few minutes and can be completed from any computer with internet access.

Online Exam registration will begin on Friday, Sept. 12, 2016  at 8:00 AM and end on Mon, Oct 10, 2016 at 11:00 PM. In order to register, students should click on the link provided on the school website or visit https://user.totalregistration.net/PSAT/241680 to register. To complete registration, students must answer all of the required questions. Registration is not complete until students have printed the pdf of the confirmation page that is provided at the end.

  • Waivers are available for juniors on free or reduced lunch status which will be verified by the school.
  • Accommodations for students with disabilities are only available if the College Board has approved the student's request.

Southwest High School is excited to offer families the convenience of paying exam fees online at the time of registration. Please be sure to have a debit or credit card available before beginning registration. Paying online is a great way to make sure that payment has been made while avoiding mailing payment.

Here are the important dates for the registration process:

·       Mon, Sept. 12, 2016 at 8:00 AM - Registration Begins

·       Mon, Oct 10, 2016 at 11:00 PM - Registration Ends

·       Thu, Oct 24, 2016 at 3:00 PM - Registrations that have not been paid for will be canceled. Exams will be issued to students on the waitlist.

When is the PSAT? Wednesday, November 2nd at 8:00 AM in the West and East Gyms. Please come at least 15 minutes early!
