MUS update 4/27-31
Monday, April 27, 2015 6:45 AM
Girls play home Tuesday vs. Mounds View.
Open team has a bye week -- so no game, but they'll practice at 3:30 on Thursday instead.
Captains practices on Monday's beginning this week, in addition to Tu-Wed-Th coach practices.
Kudos to all the Open players for their great stamina, spirit, and play at Mudbath! 6 games in 2 days with a win over Madison Memorial, and great challenges to both Hopkins (MN) and Stoughton (WI).
Thanks to Dan L. for tournament coordination and coaching, to Tim O and Sam R for coaching, to the parents that drove, and to our players for garnering a quick invitation back to our host family's house for next year :)
Next up: Hopkins Hustle (both girls and open teams!) May 9-10
Captain's Practices Start 4/27
Wednesday, April 22, 2015 8:15 PM

Stadium Game Info *** CANCELLED ***
Tuesday, April 21, 2015 9:10 AM
**** THE STADIUM GAME HAS BEEN CANCELLED ***
We have scheduled a game at the stadium for Wednesday, May 13th at 7 PM. We are going to play a co-ed game against South Squall.
With over 40 players playing this spring, we will choose players for the game for a manageable quantity. Here are the criteria for playing in the game:
Inform a coach you would like to play.
Learn a position on offense - handler/cutter and playing hard defense whether person or zone.
Attendance at practice and games
We are targeting about 21 players for the game and will have a final roster on May 11th. The roster will not affect playing time at league games where everyone gets an opportunity nor will it affect opportunities to improve your game at practice.
The game is an opportunity to showcase are sport for the rest of the school so everyone should be promoting the event.

2. LAST CALL FOR MUDBATH tournament
We have room for 6 more players. Let me know ASAP – text is best, 612-508-6489, or firstname.lastname@example.org -- final roster due Monday. (New players welcome. Sorry, 8th graders aren’t eligible for this one.)
3. TEAM SNAP is ready!
We are launching our use of www.Teamsnap.com , an online and mobile app that allows us to send e-mails to everyone more efficiently (and reliably), and allows players to indicate their availability for games. Thanks Kevin K. who's done an amazing job getting roster, games, e-mails, preloaded. No worries if you aren’t tech savvy, you will still be getting e-mails right into your in-box, just as you have been.
Some people were already in TeamSnap; new people have been added (apologies for any errors).
STEP 1: You should get an email via TeamSnap to create a login. MUS will show up as one of your teams when you log in. (If you want, you can have your player create their login first. Then you can choose to either share your player’s login or create your own.)
STEP 2: Use TeamSnap to RSVP for games & check the game schedule, and past results
STEP 3: (optional) Parents, you can add yourself to be an “additional contact” for your player, so that you can then mark your player’s availability. You do this by going to the “roster” tab, clicking ON your players name, and then adding your name/e-mail as an additional contact for that player.
Problems? Email Kevin (Kevin@kinneavy.com) (NOT Madayn!) if you don’t get an invitation from TeamSnap in the next day, or if you have any problems with the system.

New Communication Tool Coming Soon – TEAM SNAP
Several parents have suggested that the TEAM SNAP app will be more efficient for us and we are going to give it a try. You don’t have to be very tech savvy…messages will appear in your e-mail. But it allows players to indicate whether they are playing in games, allows parents to indicate if they can drive, and keeps track of game schedules/results, etc. We will pre-load your addresses. You will have to set up a log in once, but that should be it.
Once TEAM SNAP is up, we will use it as our primary communication tool. We will keep the FB page more for general information and player to player communication.
Fundraiser Success: Congrats and thanks to all who participated in the fundraiser. You raised over $3,000 for MUS, which will allow us to buy pop-up canopies for the team and to provide financial assistance to ensure that kids who want to play, can.
Need help finding or acquiring cleats or covering any costs of playing? Ask your coach or Madalyn Cioci. Coaches may have a line on inexpensive options, and MUS can help offset costs for players.
If you’ve read to here, you get a MUS swag cheer.
Tuesday, April 14, 2015 7:35 PM
This is last minute, but MUS decided to add a Wednesday practice, starting tomorrow (4/15), for the rest of the season. Same time and place...3:30 Minikahda. This will let boys and girls have one practice a week together. Bonding!
Tuesday, April 14, 2015 6:15 AM
After our first few games, coaches are concerned about players having the gear they need to be safe and happy throughout the ultimate season! As you pack for your upcoming games and practices, make sure to include these things:`
WATER - Absolutely a necessity, even when it's chilly out!
WARM CLOTHES - Keep a sweatshirt, sweatpants, winter hat and gloves in your bag. If rain is on the forecast, bring a raincoat. Hypothermia is a real concern during our spring season! NOTE: If you are not dressed appropriately for the weather at games you will be sent home and will not play.
CLEATS - A pair of soccer/softball/football/lacrosse cleats will help keep your knees and ankles safe, especially when the grass is wet. If you need help finding cleats, talk to a coach.
GARBAGE BAG - Keep one in your ultimate bag so you can keep your gear dry if it starts to rain (or snow).

Madison Mudbath Tournament Info
Friday, April 10, 2015 6:15 AM
Hey MUS Boys/Open Team,
Time to organize for the Madison MUDBATH Tournament!
Southwest MUS Open was one of 16 teams accepted in the prestigious Madison Mudbath Tournament, April 24-25-26 in Madison Wisconsin. (Note: We didn't register a girls team this year because at the time we didn't know if we'd have the numbers to field a team).
Mudbath gives us a chance to test ourselves against teams from thorough the Midwest- of the 16 teams, only 6 are from Minnesota. Mudbath is very well organized and its 15th year.
Here is some basic info:
- Must be in high school. (Sorry, 8th graders aren't able to play in this one.)
-3 games on Saturday, 2 to 3 on Sunday.
-4 team pools on Saturday. Championship or consolation round on Sunday.
-Housing provided by host families from Madison
-Leave from Southwest Door 7 on Friday the 24th at 3:30pm.
Kids will be dropped off at home on Sunday between 7-9pm depending on how we do.
-Here is the Mudbath site
We need to know by April 16th if you plan to attend. Cost will be $10 per player tournament fee (plus meal expenses and any souvenir gear). This will be a great opportunity to experience a first class regional tournament, improve our skills and have fun. We're hoping to take about 16-20 kids.
Please RSVP by April 16 via Google form:
Parents, we will determine drivers required after we know how many kids are going to play.
Our coaches for the weekend will be Sam Raths (we hope!), Dan Lieberman (MUS parent and a former ultimate coach, and Tim Opdahl (MUS alum, '14).
Thanks to Dan Lieberman for tournament organizing!

Practice at Armatage 4:00-6:00 on March 24th and 26th *** Updated ***
Sunday, March 22, 2015 2:30 PM
It has been decided to hold practice this week at Armatage (58th & Penn) 4:00-6:00 on Tues., March 24th and Thurs., March 26th (NOTE TIME CHANGE).
Our official contract is in for Minikahda Vista and they want us to use the field starting on April 2nd. Eventually Coach Erin will be in charge of letting everyone know where practices will be held each week but until our contracts for field reservations start, we will need to be flexible for the next 3 practices.
There is a bus route that can get you to this location (pick up #6 southbound on Xerxes, get off at 58th Street, and walk east to Penn) and hopefully a few parents and players can take some kids if needed. Coach Chris also volunteered to pick -up some players if needed. Maggie can get the 4 eigth graders to Armatage right after they get out of school if needed (text her at 612-865-4608).
Lastly, Please bring any outstanding Fundraiser packets to practice on Tues. We need all unsold coupons to be returned to the Impact Fundraising Co. so they can settle our account with us.
Thank you everyone for making all of this happen for our MUS players!
MUS Discs are Here!
Thursday, March 19, 2015 8:10 PM
We were able to give out 14 Discs at tonight's practice! Please get your registration in ASAP so you can get your disc too! You can even bring it to the Fundraiser this Sun. and pick up your disc at that time.
Final Fundraiser Date -- Sunday, March 22, 2015
Thursday, March 19, 2015 7:30 AM
A big Thank You to everyone involved with last Saturdays Fundraiser Blitz kickoff! It was a very worthwhile event for the team, in more ways than just raising money (Which they did!) for MUS. It was fun to get to know new players and everyone enjoyed the pizza and suspense of being able to dip their hand in the CA$H bag. Just ask John Lazur, he managed to pull out a $10.00 bill in both of his grabs. It was a beautiful day and there was even some time to toss around the frisbee.
Our next (and final) fundraiser date is Sunday, March 22nd.
Meet at the Lazur/Cioci household (4006 York Ave. S. Minneapolis, 55410) at 12:00 p.m. for a brief selling tips discussion and to get your map and pick your driver for the day.
We go out in small groups and sell until 5:00. Then we meet back at the Lazur/Cioci household for a pizza party and cash prizes to be won. This should be another fun event and the weather looks like overcast with a high in the 40's which could keep people in their neighborhood and willing to contribute!
We are all very excited about this team building year! Our first practice this week was awesome with 24 boys and 12 girls showing up to support this game. Ultimate frisbee is one of the most honorable team sports ever played. It defines good sportsmanship with self-refereeing and a creative cheer from each team to the other after every game. Who does that??? Ultimate teaches our kids what we want them to learn and a game they can enjoy playing forever!
Thank you and looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!
Fundraiser packets are due after the final fundraiser and no later than Mon. 23rd. If you can drop them off at the Lazur/Cioci household on Sun. even if you cannot attend the fundraiser Blitz or give them to a captain, coach or booster member by the 23rd that would be perfect. Thank you for all your efforts!
