The Southwest High School Math Team wrapped up the division title for the sixth consecutive year on Monday night. There is still one meet remaining on February 13 at Southwest. Five of the Minneapolis high schools and one charter school met up at Roosevelt High School last night for the fourth meet of the year. It was a hard meet to prepare for because all of the practice time coincided with our scheduled winter break.

Some statistics from the meet:

• 132 total students from six schools in the Minneapolis division participated.
• 65 Southwest students participated individually at the meet.
• 54 of the Southwest students scored at least one point. I think the eleven students who where “shut out” are kicking themselves for not studying over break.
• Four of the top five scores at the meet were earned by Southwest students.
• One Southwest student earned a whopping 12 out of 14 points. Remarkably, he did it by correctly answering six difficult questions and then missing two relatively easy questions.
• The varsity team (official scoring team) earned 65 of a possible 136 points, finishing in first place within the division. We started the day in 14^th place out of 170 teams in the state.
• The junior varsity team earned 48 of a possible 136 points. That is good enough to unofficially finish second in the division for the first time this year. Way to go, JV!
