Southwest Safety Update

At Southwest High School, we believe in creating and maintaining safe and welcoming learning environments for students. We acknowledge there have been recent events in our community causing concerns for our students and families. We take those concerns very seriously. Please understand that there was never a threat made against Southwest, and through our partnership with the Minneapolis Police Department and MPS Safety and Security staff, we have been assured the learning environment at Southwest is safe for students to be at school. We will share more information with families at a community meeting now planned for Tuesday, March 20, at 5:30 p.m. We are also arranging times next week when staff can share their perspectives, concerns and ideas.

Math Team Places 7th at State

Southwest Math Team participated in the Alpha Class (the top group of schools) at the state tournament yesterday.

Held annually at South St. Paul High School, with about forty five schools represented from across the state, the tournament builds upon the difficultly of the regular season to challenge some of the best math students in the state. Southwest entered the tournament ranked 13th in the regular season. We turned in the 7th best score at the tournament, narrowly missing a tie with the champions from last year, Edina High School.

Minneapolis Parks Community Advisory Committee

The Southwest Service Area Master Plan (SWSAMP) process will include: taking a comprehensive look at each neighborhood park asset within southwest Minneapolis; engaging with community members and park users; setting a vision for operations, management, programming, and capital improvement in parks; and producing a master plan document outlining this information. Please visit the project webpage for more information, and help us spread the word.
