I earned my BA from Ripon College in Ripon, WI in 1988 with a major in German and a minor in English. That summer I moved to Bonn, Germany and taught in the English Department at the University of Bonn. It was an exciting first teaching experience, and I decided to return to Minneapolis to earn my Masters in Education in Second Languages and Cultures at the University of Minnesota.
My husband came to the U.S. from El Salvador in 1989. Our older son, Southwest Class of 2013, is graduating May 2017 from Ripon College with a major in Political and Gov't and a minor in National Security. His dream is to work and live in Washington DC. Our younger son is in 6th grade at Sanford Middle School. Both are fluent in Spanish and English and proud Salvadorans.
I have been teaching in Minneapolis Public Schools for 25 years. 19 of these years have been at Southwest High School where I've had the honor to work with primarily Vietnamese, Latino, and Somali students and their families. Go, Lakers!
