Grading

Southwest High School is an International Baccalaureate World School (IB). All choir classes will be graded based on IB philosophy.

IB mission statement

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Assessment for arts courses in all years of the programme is criterion-related, based on four equally weighted assessment criteria. For Southwest choirs specifically, the breakdown is as follows:

LEARNING AND SKILLS (50%)

Criterion A Knowing and Understanding - Rehearsal Readiness and Classroom Contribution

Criterion B Developing Skills - Part Tests, Theory, Sight singing, etc. (music & rehearsal skills)

EXPRESSING AND RESPONDING (50%)

Criterion C Thinking Creatively - Concerts & Performances, small group work, composition, improv

Criterion D Responding - Concert Reflections, peer evaluations, connections, written work
