So you just got assigned a research project ... How do you know where to begin? Research projects, essays, or anything that requires citing sources can be intimidating, but we are here to help.

Essential Question

When you're writing your essential question, it's important to choose something that interests you. While you have to work within the framework of your assignment, try to find a way to incorporate something of personal interest -- it makes research the research process go much more smoothly! Here's a great guide to developing research questions -- it can help you get started when you're beginning your brainstorming session. 

Brainstorming, or mind mapping, can be very helpful when you're at the beginning stages of the research process. There are lots of tools out there to help you, and Mashable has created a really useful list of resources (many of them free).
