Mlle Engelhart's Classroom Webpage

Bienvenue!

Welcome to Mlle Engelhart's French page!  I am thrilled to have you in my class, and am looking forward to an excellent year at Southwest High School.

Please be sure to review the classroom policies and procedures found in the class syllabus.  A few highlights:

  • Come to class on-time, prepared, and with a positive attitude.  Tardiness will not be accepted, and will result in a deduction of participation points as well as detention.
  • Late work is not accepted.  Homework is to be completed by the beginning of the hour.
  • Should you be absent, check the calendar on the class website or talk with a classmate to see what you missed.  Missed assignments should be turned in upon your return to class.  Unexcused absences will result in a zero for all missed work.
  • If you know you will be absent, come see me ASAP so you can turn your work in promptly upon your return to class.
  • French class should be fun!  If you are completing your work, participating in class, and paying attention throughout class, you should be a successful student.  If you are applying yourself in and out of French class, but are still struggling, come see me.

Here's to a great year learning the French language, and about francophone culture,

Interested in extra credit?  Read a French book, and write a brief report about it.

  • If you have a Hennepin County Library Card, check out a French children's book at either the SOUTHDALE or EDINA library (both have excellent collections).
  • Read your book once through.
  • Read a second time, and pay attention to the story line (look at the pictures)--what is happening in this story?
  • Read a third time and take notes on any vocabulary.
  • Write a report including vocab words and their definitions, a summary of the story, and whether or not you would recommend this book and why.
  • Type your report and hand in to Mlle Engelhart for extra credit!
