Coaching Staff

Andrea Gelle  This is Gelle's second year coaching cross country at Southwest High School. She has also been a member of the track and field coaching staff for the past three seasons, working with the distance and middle distance runners. Gelle is also a social studies teacher at Southwest. 

Prior to coming to Southwest, Gelle was the head track and field and assistant cross country coach at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN from 2010-2015. She also taught and coached at Apple Valley High School from 2008-2010. 

Gelle graduated in 2007 from St. Olaf College, where she was a cross country and track and field captain and earned All-America honors in the 1,500m run her senior year. 

Gelle believes commitment, consistency, and confidence are the keys to success and hopes to build a tradition of excellence at Southwest. 


Jaime Yaeck  This is Jaime's 4th season coaching the Lakers. Jaime grew up 40 miles west of Minneapolis in the small town of Hamburg, MN. She was a sprinter in high school and grew to love recreational distance running in college. She has since run 20+ marathons, three of them wearing a hotdog costume. 

Jaime is passionate about running and finds particular enjoyment encouraging runners through long runs. 


Russ Anteronen  Russ is no stranger to Minneapolis cross country and track and field. He ran at Mpls Central High School in the 1960s and was coached by Hall of Fame coaches Bob Hoisington and Earl Bowman. Russ continued to compete in sprints and horizontal jumps in all-comers meets. He has traveled nationally and internationally in Masters competitions. 

Russ has a passion for helping youth find and develop their talents. He has been coaching for nearly twenty years from the high school to the youth level. 

Russ is a lifelong student of the sport and takes pleasure educating athletes on the technical aspects of running. 


Bennett Henderson  Bennett returns to coach the Lakers. An alum of Southwest, Bennett enjoys continuing to be a part of the Southwest cross country and track and field tradition. 
Ronnie Stimson  Ronnie, a 2012 graduate of Southwest, returns to Southwest after recently graduating from Hamline University where he was a four-year letterwinner and captain in cross country and track and field his senior year. 
Emma Blom  This is Emma's first year coaching at Southwest. She is a recent graduate of Augsburg College where she was a four-year letterwinner and captain in cross country and track and field her senior year.
