"Education functions either as an instrument to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity, Or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world." -Paulo Freire

I was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, so I am passionate about the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, real Chicago pizza; stuffed not deep dish, and spent several years hiding my love of the Chicago Cubs in White Sox territory.  I spent my youth playing Volleyball, Basketball, Softball both 16 and 12 inch and enjoying, questioning and discovering my joy of learning.

I graduated from Illinois State University in 1991-GO REDBIRDS!!!   I earned a Bachelor of Science in both Political Science and United States History with Minors in Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology.  1991 was a terrible year for college grads, so I began working as a Mortgage Broker for both Household Finance and TCF Bank.  After a life changing trip to New Mexico, I discovered my true calling, teaching.  I began my graduate work at Loyola University Chicago and earned my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in 1996 and began my teaching career.  After two years of teaching and a philosophical opposition to Outcome Based Education, I decided to follow my passion for Progressive Education and headed to the best model in the country, Minneapolis Public Schools.

I have taught at South High School since 1998, and in the Open Program since 1999 after, I loaded up my Geo Metro and put-putted, fully packed and began my journey as a teacher, learner and mentor.

I am currently the Open Program Coordinator, an Academic Coach and I continue to teach AP United States History and a variety of other social studies courses.

I married in 2004 and have 3 beautiful children that invigorate and energize me as a mother and teacher everyday!!!
