Additional leadership changes at Southwest High School

Two of our assistant principals, Sue Mortensen and Brian Nutter, are leaving the Southwest community. Ms. Mortensen has decided to retire, and Mr. Nutter will be working with the academic leadership department of Minneapolis Public Schools.
To be ready for the new school year, we anticipate interviewing a pool of assistant principal candidates next week.
The process for finding Southwest’s new principal will begin later this school year and will also include input from Southwest staff, students, families and community partners. Here’s what you can expect from the principal hiring process:
  • Interview Team: We’ll work with district staff to identify people for the interview team.
  • Leadership Profile: Our community will be asked to share our perspective about the characteristics and skills we value most in a principal. 
  • Interviews: On our scheduled interview day, the team will meet with Human Resources to orient to the process, finalize the interview plan, review resumes, and then interview finalists. 
  • Recommendation: Our recommendations and feedback will be provided to the Superintendent, who will make the final selection decision.
