B.A. in History and Spanish --University of Minnesota, 1992

M.Ed. in Second Languages and Cultures Education--University of Minnesota, 1994

Teacher in Minneapolis Public Schools 1994-present

I have studied in Toledo, Spain and in the towns of Cuernavaca, Zacatlán, Puerto Vallarta, and Playa del Carmen in Mexico.  I have been to Mexico more than 10 times over the past twenty years, and I have spent much of my career teaching first-generation Mexican-Americans.  Mexico holds a special place in my heart.

I began my career at Emerson Spanish Immersion, moved to Anwatin Middle School, and then to Roosevelt High School.  After taking a short break for motherhood, I came to Southwest, where I have been since 2006.  As my background is in History as well as Spanish, I enjoy exposing students to the history and culture of the Spanish-speaking world.  Learning a language is so much more than grammar rules and vocabulary.  I hope that my students leave my class with a greater appreciation and understanding of Spanish-speaking people around the world, as well as here in Minnesota.
