Hi Southwest Students:  It's Mr. Whitehead here and welcome to my webpage.  It's a work in progress but I promise to add to it regularly to keep you informed of what is going on in PE. This is my 25th year at Southwest High School ( I started in 1992) and I am very proud to work at the best high school in Minneapolis! I graduated from St. Luke's College of Physical Education (Exeter, England) in 1979 and my first teaching assignment was way back in 1980 at a school called the Henry Beaufort School in Winchester, England.  I also taught at South Park High School in Lincoln, England.  Whilst completing my Masters Degree in Sports Science at Iowa State University in Ames, IA I taught P.E. as a graduate assistant for 2 years.
I will be teaching Fitness for Life 1, Fitness for Life 2, and PE Electives Weight Training and Soccer
I have college sophomore twins (one boy, one girl) and I enjoy soccer, rugby, and fishing. I have coached high school soccer at Minneapolis South (boys), Minneapolis Southwest (girls) and Edina Girls.  I currently coach the Womens Soccer Team and Womens Badminton Team at Southwest High School.  Outside of school I run a soccer training company called Coerver Coaching Minnesota.  Being a PE teacher, it helps that I am crazy about all kinds of sports and I hope to pass on some of this passion for Fitness and Sports to you in my classes.  The world is changing fast with technology at our finger tips, but we must never lose sight of the fact that our bodies need exercise.  Fitness can be fun and we'll be learning many ways in which you can stay active and feel good about working out.  I look forward to meeting you in the West Gym and the Weight Room.
