Non-Profit Student Support Services
Southwest has several non-profit agencies who work within our school to assist students with career and postsecondary planning.

Purpose
Project Success is a youth development organization that works with middle and high school students to help them develop life skills that can help them transform their lives. Students are served by professional staff through in-class workshops with a grade specific curriculum, professional theatrical productions, one-on-one sessions and college tours.
Eligibility
Project Success is available to all Southwest students.
Process
Project Success facilitators arrange classroom workshop visits with all Southwest English teachers including Read 180 and ELL teachers. Drop in one-on one help (college search and application process, financial aid search and career exploration) is available to all Southwest students after school on a weekly basis every Wednesday in Room E103. There are several college tour field trips available on a for-pay first come, first serve basis (scholarships available for students with need). Free theater tickets are available throughout the year to Southwest students and families. Listen and watch the mail for announcements.

One of the Federal TRiO Programs designed to increase access to post-secondary education for low income and first generation students. The program not only guides students through the college search and application process, but also prepares them for college level work through monthly academic workshops conducted on Saturdays as well as in-school tutoring opportunities.
First generation students in grades 9-12 whose family income is no greater than 150% of the federally calculated poverty level are eligible to participate. Non-documented students are not eligible for participation in the program.
Eligible students are recruited through classroom presentations and individual meetings and asked to complete an application for program participation. Maximum caseload is 15.

One of the Federal TRiO Programs, ETS is a college preparatory program designed to increase access to post-secondary education for disadvantaged students. ETS provides students with academic advising, study skills enhancement, career exploration opportunities, standardized test preparation, and college planning including application assistance, college tours and financial aid guidance, Services are provided through a series of in-school monthly workshops. The program advisor is available to meet with students individually during or after school.
ETS seeks students who are both low-income and first generation college-bound. Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch, and whose parents did not graduate from a four-year college in the United States are eligible for the program. Non-documented students are not eligible for services. ETS seeks students with the potential to succeed in college.

An Americorps volunteer works to arrange individual/group tutoring for students, as well as classroom volunteers for teachers who request this support.
Any Southwest student or teacher is eligible. Tutors in specific subject areas may be more difficult to arrange.
Put a note in the “Volunteer Services” mailbox in the mailroom, or call the coordinator’s cell phone number to request a classroom volunteer, or a tutor for a student who is struggling.
