One of the reasons I wanted to do this project was because, when I planned out the layout I really liked the effect of all the layers. The first layer was the white paper, then the bells, the mirror, the skeleton, the Jewish star and then the back of the head. The reason why the bells are so hard to see is because Elie Wiesel imagined a world without bells when he was in the camp. The bells became routine; he got used to them and didn’t hear them anymore. The piece was inspired from the last image in the book when he looks in the mirror and sees a ghost of his former self. The reason why the Jewish star is over the skeleton’s face was due to the fact that during the time of the war people only saw him as Jewish and labeled Elie.
