There are two lunch periods, and each student is assigned to one lunch period:   

A Lunch is from 11:30 am to 12:00 noon—between class periods 3 and 4

B Lunch is from 12:30 to 1:00 pm—between class periods 4 and 5

Breakfast is served from 8:05 to 8:25 everyday.

  • Only Juniors and Seniors are allowed off campus during lunch.
  • The Lunch Room is located on the ground floor of the main building.
What doors can I enter during the day?
Southwest is secured during the school day. Between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. you may enter the building through Door 3, located on 47th Street between Chowen and Beard Avenues. Sign in as a visitor at the desk in the hallway. People needing an accessible entry should enter through Door 5 off the Chowen Avenue parking lot. Please ring the bell located near the door and office personnel will admit you.
Can I get a message to my child during the day?

It is not possible for the office staff to relay non-emergency messages to students during the day. In the case of a family emergency, a social worker will call a student out of class.  Please call the Main Office at 612 668 3030 and ask to speak to a social worker.

If my child gets sick at school, what should he/she do?

Students who are feeling ill during the day must check in with the school nurse. The nurse will call you to come pick up your student. You will need to come into the Main entrance (door 3), sign in, and pick your student up in the nurse's office - Room 117.

Why do I need to sign in at the front desk when I come to the school?
For security reasons, all visitors must sign in and wear a visible name bag while in the building during school hours.
Where can I park when visiting the school?
Visitor and student parking is available on the streets around Southwest with the following exceptions:

 

  • all parking lots surrounding the school are permit parking only
  • there are posted city restrictions on 47th St, Abbott, Beard, Beard Circle, Chowen, and Drew
