GRADES:  9, 10, 11, 12

PREREQUISITE:  NONE

UNITS OF STUDY:   Self Advocacy, Student Led IEPs, Five Transition Areas, Disability Legislation, Accommodations, Disability Services, Postsecondary Options, Using an Interpreter, How Sound Travels/Hearing Loss

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This is a year long course that is designed to teach students who are deaf or hard of hearing the appropriate self advocacy skills they need to be successful after high school.  Students will learn appropriate ways to advocate for their hearing loss in different situations and will become familiar with legislation that protects their rights.  Students will also learn about the five transition areas and will develop reasonable goals for each area, which will be incorporated into their online portfolio.
