20th World History

Course Description:

 

 

This rigorous World History college level course challenges IB candidates to develop reading comprehension, analytical writing and analytical discussion skills. The content of this course prepares candidates to meet the demands of the International Baccalaureate exams. This college level course requires IB candidates to study a selection of 20th century world history topics from the following list:

 

1.      Causes, practices and effects of war

2.      Democratic states-challenges and responses

3.      Origins and development of authoritarian and of single-party states

4.      Nationalist and independence movements in Africa and Asia and post -l945 Central and Eastern European states

5.      The Cold War

 

IB candidates aslo study the following three prescribed I.B. subjects in depth for DBQ preparation

                  Prescribed Subject 1.    Peacemaking,peacekeeping and international relations l918-1936

                  Prescribed Subject 2.    The Arab-Israeli conflict l945-1979

                  Prescribed Subject 3.    Communism in crises l976-1989

 

On September 1, 2009 Students were given a 8 page detailed syllabus on the  above material for the 20th IB World History Course

 

Class Assignments:

 

Requirements include extensive outside reading, research papers, oral presentations as well as essay exams. The class expectation sheet describes information on attendance, grading, and behavior.
